Please pay special attention to the “Sources” directions
Project 1 | Category 1: Report on Scholarly and Popular Sources in Discipline (12%)
What to do. For this project you will research and select four sources: two current scholarly sources, one current popular source, and one source of your choice (scholarly, popular, or trade) from the discipline affiliated with your major or future career and write a report. Make sure you read the note below on what indicates a source from an article. Your report should include the characteristics of these sources what makes them authoritative, scholarly, credible sources in your discipline? What are the characteristics of the popular source and how is it different from the scholarly sources? What are their purposes and who are their intended audiences? How are they published in paper, online, through social media? You should use the handout on scholarly vs. non-scholarly sources and the web link to scholarly, popular, and trade sources to help you in discussing the characteristics of the sources you choose for this report.
The information you provide in your report will probably include examples from the sources, so properly cite all borrowed ideas and material. Your report should inform your audience about credible and popular sources affiliated with your discipline.
SOURCES. To be clear, you are reporting on sources, not articles. Sources for this assignment are larger works from which information comes. These may be journals, websites, or various accounts on social media. Your goal is to report on the source itself (meaning the actual journal, or the actual magazine or website, not individual articles within the source itself).
AUDIENCE. Write this for your peers in this class who may be in your same discipline. Use this report as a way to build a list of credible sources from your discipline that you can go back to for future assignments and popular sources you can explore for information.
FORMAT. Your report should be 4-5 double-spaced pages, plus a Works Cited (MLA) page.
