APA Formatting
Note below three different types of sources in APA format. The first is an article in a journal (includes page numbers); the second is a book; the third is a chapter within an edited book (includes page numbers). Notice that the journal title and the book titles are in italic. Notice that only the first words in the title, or words after colons (or proper names) are in U/lc. Notice the authors are listed alphabetically by their last name with initials for their first and middle names. Within you cite information from an article in the body your text, you need to cite the copyright date of your sources for information and the author’s last name within parentheses unless the author is specified in the body of your text. When you use a short direct quote, you need to cite the page number (outside the quotes but before the punctuation. For example:
Drudy (2008) believes that the young children are mostly taught by female teachers.
The feminization of teaching mediates low salaries (Drudy, 2008).
“The teaching of young children has been dominated by women” (Drudy, 2008, p. 309).
If the quote is longer than a few sentences, then it needs to be indented both on the left and the right margin. In this case, the citation goes after the final punctuation mark not before it as in the above examples. On indented quotes, you don’t include quotation marks.
