Paragraph 1: Introduce the book. What question do you think the author was trying to answer by writing this book? What is their response to the question?
Paragraph 2: How does the author go about making their argument in response to the essential question of the text? What are some of the strategies that they use- statistics? stories? speeches? poetry? art?
Paragraph 3: Try to look at the text through a different lens. If your book is about medicine, try looking at it from a political perspective. If your book is about history, try looking at it from an artistic perspective. To help you select a different lens to look through your book, check out the graphic in Part One of this document.
Paragraph 4: Evaluate the effectiveness of the text. What do you think about the argument? Would you recommend the book to someone else? Why or why not?
