Ethics are unique and different for each of us. They are the guidelines through which we shape our life choices. It is impossible to fully express what ethical behavior looks like for each of you, because my ethics and value are fundamentally mine, and I cannot assume they are the same as your own. Thus, instead of a holier-than-thou convo on what it means to be a good person…let’s instead look at some examples that help us see what UNETHICAL behavior looks like!
Today we will engage in an Ethics Case Study where you will be expected to watch one of the following films or series and use it to discuss unethical speaking habits.
You are to choose a film, watch it, and use it to identify AT LEAST 3 unique and specific examples of EACH of the unethical speaking habits discussed in last classes lecture. You may choose your own film. Ideally, use the list below, or use your best judgement to choose a film that encounters many different unethical speaking habits.
Hulu: Thank You For Smoking (my top choice), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Netflix: Derren Brown: The Push, Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem & Madness
Disney+: A Goofy Movie and/or An Extremely Goofy Movie, Remember the Titans
Other good movies for this assignment include Easy A, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, 1984
