“Music and ___” Playlist: This is the larger project you will work on during the semester. Using Spotify or YouTube links, you will create a playlist of 6 pieces that align with a social topic, as in the titles of the Resonances textbook’s chapters and our own classes (“Music and Race”, “Music and Immigration,” etc.). You may select your own topic; however, it cannot be one of the options presented in the textbook or our class. You must include at least one piece of Global/World Music and two pieces of Western Art Music. Alongside the playlist, you will produce a written paper that describes the musical characteristics of each piece, as well as how the social context surrounding the music fits with your topic. This project is divided into several assignments and due dates throughout the semester. Make sure to work weekly on your playlist project.
