The evaluation of module Research Methods will be done in the following way: • You will write an individual report that may be the research proposal of the master thesis, to be later developed. • The report will have less than 2,000 words (excluding references), with no more than 6 pages (10pt font size). The references section must be included within the 6-page report. • The 6-page report should be written in LaTeX and formatted as a one-column IEEE journal paper (it is the template used in this document, IEEE journal paper produced under LATEX using IEEEtran.cls). You will be given guidance to comply with this requirement. One of the options you have is to use the IEEE templates provided in the following link that can be processed in the platform overleaf, available at https://www.overleaf.com/org/ieee (the format of journal paper and one column). • Reports with more than 6 pages, more than 2,000 words and without the IEEE journal paper format will not be evaluated. That is, your mark will be 0 marks. • You will submit the report in a pdf file. No other file type will be accepted. • The submission will be done on Canvas via the Assignments link. • As with all of the work that you produce in your academic life, no plagiarism will be tolerated. However, as with all academic publications, it is fine to cite other people’s work as long as you appropriately reference the source of the citation (as it will be extensively explained during the module). II. RECOMMENDED STRUCTURE OF YOUR INDIVIDUAL REPORT The individual report may be the research proposal of the master thesis, to be later developed at the end of your master degree. The recommended parts that this research proposal should include are the following ones: • Title. • Abstract. • Introduction and motivation. • Background. This section should include a preliminary literature review and an explanation of the significance of your proposal. • Research aims and questions. • Research methodology (including a short project design and plan). • Summary of expected outcomes.
