Write a three paragraph essay responding to the prompt question: In George Orwell’s essay “Shooting an Elephant,” the narrator reflects on his inability to adhere to his convictions about killing large animals. Illustrate how the decision to kill the elephant results in a variety of consequences for political and personal betrayal. In addition, explain the significance of the last line of the essay: “Little did any one know that he shot the elephant to avoid looking the fool.” Be certain to support your contentions with multiple quotations from the text.
