MIS589 COURSE PROJECT
This course requires the completion of a comprehensive network enhancement or upgrade plan. Choose a company (50+ employees) that you work for (or are familiar with) and use it as a basis for the Course Project. Do not choose a large corporation, because the scope of any project related to them will be far beyond what is reasonable for this Course Project. A quality paper will include a title page, proper citation, and a bibliography. A quality paper will include an introduction of the company and industry. The conclusion will summarize the reasoning you employed in the analysis and any outstanding conclusions you can reach about the company being analyzed.
Section 1 – Business Needs (due in Module 1)
What new network features are being considered for implementation? What area of the current network design needs upgrading? Why?
This is where you are going to assess the current network design and determine what type of enhancements and/or upgrades will benefit a company based on the company’s business goals, products and services, and customer demographics.
Section 2 – Enhancement/ Upgrade Options (due in Module 3)
Put together at least three possible options to achieve your goal(s) explained in Section 1. These options may vary by complexity, impact on the company, and so forth.
When proposing any plan that spends significant capital to enhance a company’s IT infrastructure, you are expected to provide options that management can choose from. Leadership must be able to decide, based on your recommendations, what will work best for the organization. Your focus here is to present options, not to make the actual decision.
Section 3 – Cost Structure and Critical Factors (due in Module 5)
Each one of your options must have a rough cost structure associated with it, in terms of time and materials.
Here you are looking to break down an option into its individual pieces and assign some sort of cost to it. You will need research into what these different technologies cost in terms of hardware, software, and human capital to implement.
In addition to the cost structure, draw up a list of pros and cons of the options.
Every option almost always contains pros and cons. Management will decide what the value of each option is, based on the critical factors you are considering and the cost structure above.
Section 4 – Implementation Plan (due in Module 7)
Pick one of the options and develop an implementation plan for it, including acquisition of materials, timeline, time to complete task, employee training (if necessary), and so forth.
If management picks an option, you will have to provide a detailed plan for the final approval and then execute a roll out.
