The linked videos working as the lecture run from about five minutes in length to about 30 minutes in length. Watch the videos and consider what the authors say for themselves and about their work in combination with the Tatum reading on literature. 1. https://youtu.be/Q2GRv_-yPWE 2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwKpg0SRzfQ 3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tR8dhpQBCMc 4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7ZQckdld-U 5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKG6DBT0EvY 6. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DGQks2Uwvc 7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ejxw-oRHjQQ Putting an Art Exhibition TogetherPutting an Art Exhibition Together Putting an art exhibition together requires the curator to think about the message/idea of the overall exhibition, the types of artworks that will best fit this message/idea, the layout of the exhibition, the space in which the exhibition will take place, etc. How would you put together an art exhibition? To help with this process, screen the following two videos. The videos will discuss what curating an exhibition means, and what sort of thinking goes into putting an exhibition together. 1. https://youtu.be/GMZVUtUhNwo 2. https://youtu.be/yDaY6KraDW0 Identity Exhibition Project (EXPLANATION) Attached Files: File HUMA 1311 Exhibition Slide Layout Example.pptx (304.249 KB) At this midway point between art and literature, let us consider how both these methods of cultural/artistic production deal with the concept of identity, specifically the Mexican-American identity. For this project, you will select from among artists listed in The Art&Artists Folder and from among the writers in The Writers&Writing Folder works of art and literature that are representative of the concept of identity in order to put together an exhibition. Specifically, you will select four (4) works of art from four (4) different artists as well as four (4) works of literature (poetry, prose, essay, etc.) from four (4) different writers and pair up one work of art with one work of literature (for a total of four (4) pairings) in order to create four unique interpretations and understandings of and on the concept of the Mexican-American identity. How will you do this? Using Microsoft Powerpoint, you will break down a slide into two parts, i.e., one for the visual work, one for the literary work. When thinking about the pairings, they do not have to be completely complementary, in other words, don’t think that they have to explain each other. BUT! They do have to work with each other, this will be determined by you. You do not have to include the entirety of your selected literary work, but you will want to include the most important or salient portions of your selected work (for example, if you selected a poem, an entire stanza or if you selected a short story, an entire paragraph and two different lines from others parts of the short story). Identity is not necessarily your main idea, but the topic you are working with. What, perhaps, can you say specifically about the Mexican-American Identity? What smaller more specific facet about Identity would you like to address? These are hints that you can use to help your thinking for this assignment. Ultimately, you will be putting together an exhibition of how the Mexican-American identity has been represented. You will use the works of art and literature you have chosen as both evidence of how you think the Mexican-American identity has bee represented as well as the components for your exhibition. Requirements: Submitted as a Microsoft PowerPoint file. Six (6) slides total: One (1) slide will include a title for your exhibition as well as your name. Four (4) slides will consist of the art/literature pairings, these should include titles of works and names of artists/writers, respectively. One (1) slide with an explanation of the exhibit you have put together; this should include ideas/explanations behind the pairings and how they function as evidence in support of understanding the Mexican-American identity
