This activity is an opportunity for you to play the role of an expert regarding a single state policy issue and offer your best advice to the Governor of Texas.
Prepare a formal policy memo for the Governor of Texas. Your document should quickly explain how the Governor can take your advice and put it into action.
This document should articulate (in 2-3 paragraphs) the relevance of the issue, the current policy position (citing the supporting evidence), and conclude with suggested reforms.
The memo is to be 1000 original words. To ensure you meet the word count, remove all cited information (quotes and paraphrasing) from your document. Without any of these, you should have 1000 words. If you submit a document with citations that is 1000 words that will be too short as this shows you did not have enough original content OR did not use your sources in the body of your text. You must use your sources and cite them in-text according to MLA guidelines. Do no use block quotations but otherwise use your sources wisely and cite them where you do. Failure to meet the minimum writing requirement or missing scholarly sources will result in a zero for the entire assignment.
The formatting protocol for a memo requires single spacing. You may view an example of what a memo should look like by visiting The Owl at Purdue site. Finally, add a cover page to the front of the document with word count, and include the works cited page at the end.
