In addition to being knowledgeable about these resources, it is also important that you know how to develop and create your own resources to share and provide with clients. Recreational therapists often times have to learn how to market not only the services they provide, but also market other community services/programs when referring clients to them. This is something we typically do not get to practice enough in an academic setting. For this assignment you will be making a community resource flyer. First, choose a city/community where either you currently live OR a place that you hope to work in the future. Using the chosen location, identify a local organization or agency that provides services/programs specific to individuals with substance use disorders. These services should be community based NOT physician or hospital related services. The goal is to find organizations that an RT would realistically educate clients about (consider adaptive sports programs, inclusive recreation, support groups, special events, assistive technology resources, community education, etc.) Locations such as hospitals, inpatient treatment programs or physician referrals do NOT meet the criteria. Once the organization is identified, students will create a flyer or newsletter to share information about that organization (in one page). The information should be presented in a visually impactful and organized format that is ‘client ready’, which means this could potentially be a resource that you print out and provide to a future client.
