Discuss the nature of storytelling in The Arabian Nights. For example, what is a ‘frame story’? How does the frame function in this book? How does its presence contextualize the stories we read?
Analyze one of the characters from these tales- Scheherazade, Sindbad, or Aladdin. What are their admirable qualities, and what are some possible character flaws? Do you see any comparisons between these characters and any modern characters in books, film, or TV shows today?
Do you see any common themes or ideas in more than one of the selections you read? If so, explain. (Some possibilities: greed, gender roles, justice)
Meaningfully compare a theme or character from any of these tales to something read in weeks 1-4. What are some of the literary components here that may be similar to earlier assigned literatures, and how (if at all) are these stories different?
