Psychology of Religion and Spirituality

Words: 173

Subject: Uncategorized

General Instructions:
Read the questions more than
once and search for the definitions of all words that you do not
understand. Ask questions in class if there is anything that you have not
understood.
Please keep in mind that all
the questions of this exam ask for short essay type of answers. You are
expected to answer to each of those questions with academic definitions,
citations and a quite extensively developed explanation.
To write successful case study
analyses you must describe your observations using factual terms (your
observations from the documentaries), while also demonstrating your
understanding of concepts from our readings.
Every single idea or point of
view expressed in this exam must rely on facts and evidence and never on
personal opinions.
a. About Facts: This means that all your observations must be associated to
“facts” mentioned in the case study (documentary) that you need to identify and
explain so that your analysis can be understood within the context.
b. About Evidence: All the facts that you analyze must be supported by
references to the textbook and other academic readings. For this assignment,
you are expected to use your textbook as an academic
resource.
c. About Personal Opinions: Basing your analysis
on personal opinions would be unethical so please make sure that all your
perspectives rely on “facts” observed in this video and your analysis is based
on evidence found in psychological science research. In this exam,
you need to cite your textbook a minimum of four (4) times; you also need to
cite each of the readings required for this exam, with a total of at least eight
(8) citations from those readings. An exam written without references will not
be graded and will be assigned a zero.
5. About Academic
Dishonesty:

Each time you use ideas or
words from your textbook or other readings, remember to cite/quote them;
otherwise, you commit plagiarism, which is academic dishonesty. The
same rule applies if you cite any other source. If plagiarism were to be
found, your exam would be assigned a zero and you would not be allowed to
rewrite it. The zero will remain a definitive grade until the
end of the semester and an academic dishonesty complaint against you will
be presented to the Academic Dean’s office.
In
the same spirit, please do not show any part of your exam to anyone. If a
student were to present partially (1 sentence, 1 paragraph) or totally
(the whole exam) materials presented by another student, both students would
be reported to the Academic Dean’s office for plagiarism.

For
your citations, quotations and reference pages use APA format exclusively.
Here is the link to the simplest explanation for APA style:
https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/general_format.html.
Please return your exam typed.
The total length of your completed exam should be a minimum of 6 and a
maximum of 8 pages, not counting the required title page and references
page. Once you are done with your exam, go to our Blackboard page,
find in the menu at your left the assignments tab labeled “Upload Exams
Here,” and upload your exam as a DOC or PDF at the link called “Upload
Your Exam #2 Here.”
Extended deadlines are
permitted only in extraordinary circumstances (e.g., illness or family
bereavement). In all cases, evidence will be requested by the Professor.
If given, these extensions will never go beyond 24 hours. If you don’t ask
in writing for an extended deadline and you return your exam after the
deadline, your exam score will show a -10% credit penalty.
Carefully read the questions
and re-read your answers before you return the exam. If you don’t respond
to some of the questions, or if you respond only partially, you will lose significant
points.
It is highly recommended
that you check that you have followed strictly all the instructions before
you return the exam.
To prepare for these case study
prompts, watch the video entitled Survivor Stories: The Dark World of Cults,
which we have viewed during class. Note that there is only one video for this
exam, so please watch carefully. While you are watching, take detailed notes. We
recommend that you watch the video a couple of times, perhaps viewing
noteworthy scenes even more. Your notes will provide you with your “facts” or
“evidence” to support your case study findings. Here is the link to the
documentary:
