#4 – Arguing on Your Own
For your fourth essay
this semester, you will go through the writing process on your own to write a
persuasive argument. We have gone
through the process of producing a polished argument three times in this class,
and now you have the chance to show me what you have learned. We will have a peer review session with this
essay, but I will not read it until the final draft. Below are the parameters for Essay #4:

1. You
should have a clear and focused thesis statement (topic and controlling
idea). You should support your thesis
statement with at least three points of support (use more if you have them). Your paper should be about 4 or 5 pages in
length.
2. You
will be expected to use at least 4 sources in this argument. You may use more if you wish. At least 3 of the sources must come from
books, journal articles, or magazine articles. (Note that these articles may come from online
databases you access through HCTC libraries.)
3. You
are required to acknowledge and address opinions that are in opposition to your
own for this essay.
4. The
essay should be formatted and documented using current APA style. Specifically,
you should use 1” margins, size 12pt. Times New Roman font. Also, your essay should be double
spaced.
