Watch the video “Prejudice” (6 mins) in LaunchPad (Chapter 11 LOQ 11-14).
Your answer to Qs 1-3 must be based on the information presented in this video.
1) According to the description given by Dr. Myers, what did the
researchers do to create the conditions that led the boys to engage in ingroup-outgroup behaviors?
2) When describing these behaviors, Dr. Myers gave some examples. You
may notice that his examples don’t fit well with the findings of the more recent research your text describes on ingroup bias across 17 different countries.
a) What kinds of behaviors did Dr. Myers highlight when summarizing this part of the the Robbers Cave study? Give specific examples.
b) What kind of ingroup bias was more common in the study described in your text (the one I mentioned above)? (1-2 sentences)
Using concepts you’ve learned from this course, what are some ways we can explain why
Dr. Myers chose the particular behaviors he did when describing the
results of the Robbers Cave study? Ch 7 (Memory) and Ch 8 (Thinking) may
be especially helpful for this question, but feel free to use concepts
from other chapters too. Must provide relevant LOQ(s) to receive credit.
3) According to Dr. Myers, what did the researchers do that led the boys to overcome their ingroup bias and become friends with the boys from the other group? (1-2 sentences)
4) In your opinion, CAN prejudice be eliminated (or greatly reduced)? Support your answer by referring to at least 2 different research findings described in LOQ 11-13 and/or LOQ11-14. Please provide your answer in a-d below. (10 – 12 sentences total)
