In the intro to your essay, state the theme of the selection.
In the intro to your essay, state which elements (of fiction or of poetry) contribute to the theme.
In the body paragraphs of your essay, explain how these elements contribute to the theme.
In the conclusion, tell us readers why we should care about your essay. What’s the point? How are we better, smarter or more engaged after reading your essay?
Grading criteria: Each essay should be a thesis-driven essay, where every body paragraph topic sentence points back to the thesis. Each essay should follow MLA or APA guidelines. Each essay needs to be long enough. Grammar, spelling, and punctuation should be perfect. Each essay should contain original insights, not mere summary. We’ve already read the stories and poems. We don’t need you to summarize them.
Basically in the first paragraph you are summarizing the plot and theme. Then you move onto the author (charlotte perkins gilman) and talk about her previous writing and how it relates to this story. Then talk about whether or not you think the narrator is crazy. Then if you think she is not crazy. Lastly you choose in between them on which one you think is accurate and why you think that.
