State the topic you have chosen. The topic I chose is going to have to be “Are prisons a form of rehabilitation or punishmentPresent the strongest argument you can on two different sides of your topic. Make sure to put both arguments in standard form, with the premises listed above the conclusion.
The system is designed for inmates to be punished while being rehabilitated.
Being in prison is the worst punishment there is to be taken away from family.
Prison could be a great place to rehab away from all distractions and some may need that to get rehabilitated.
Without taking sides on the issue, consider and discuss two of the following questions:
What more can people do to understand the views of those with different perspectives on this and other topics?
Prison can be and is what the inmate makes it. There are resources that are available to help inmates with drug problems. There are programs for anger management and parenting classes. So, a lot of the time it is up to the inmate to enroll and take advantage of there time and rehabilitate themselves. There is also the prison that you are in a cell locked down 23 hours a day and get an hour out a day to shower and stretch. Those places are for punishment and they don’t offer any way to get help and end up right back there. That system is just creating a revolving door for inmates that if offered help, might stay out of prison.
Do you think that understanding issues as strongly as possible from multiple points of view could promote a better life?
I, personally think that having multiple points of view could help promote a better life. I believe that I am in control of the quality of life that I live and hearing and seeing multiple points would broaden my views. I could take others’ points of view into consideration and, see so many different perspectives. I think having an open mind is something that can improve my quality of life.
