FINAL PAPER: write an essay that fulfills the following assignment, approximately 5-7 pages long. The essay should be in a relaxed style, and should be suited to the intended audience. In the essay, include facts and list songs that you would play if you were delivering the essay/lecture in person. A bibliography is required. I will provide text book content, and feel free to use internet resources. Grading: 10 points style and content; 10 points grammar, spelling, bibliography. Assignment: Many musicians have been famous, rich, and powerful. But in a few cases, they have been beloved by the entire population. Not just one part of the population, but by virtually everyone. Three examples of this type of beloved musician are: Dolly Parton, born of meager means, a female businesswoman in a man`s world; Carlos Santana, a Mexican-born immigrant who has become a mainstream of American popular music for decades; and Alicia Keyes, an African-American musician who is just hitting her popularity and power. Your assignment is to write a lecture that you might deliver to a group of high school students about ONE of these musicians. Explain to the students who the person is, what type of music they wrote or performed, and talk about songs you might play to them if you were in person. Then explain the things about them that makes them different from all the other gifted, rich musicians. Especially cover their social activism, their outreach to underserved communities, or their philantrhopic generosity. in short, make the high school students fall in love with this person and their music.
