A Literature Review (3,000 words maximum) The purpose of the literature review is to enhance awareness of a chosen topic of interest relating to clinical practice. Your chosen topic should relate specifically to Humanistic and Integrative counselling and psychotherapy, theory and practice. BSc (Hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy Word counts for the literature review should be adhered to (3,000 words) including quotations, references, titles and sub-headings. (The appendices, and bibliography sections are not included in the word count). Footnotes are not normally required. Please also remember that whilst concepts should be consistently referenced to the literature, direct quotes (which should be short) should be used judiciously and sparingly. All theoretical concepts and direct quotations must be acknowledged using the Harvard referencing system. Please refer to the guide on the ‘All BSc Students` section of Moodle. Whilst you might choose to include a Glossary, this should be seen as a way of enhancing your work, not replacing it. It is important to note the following. The Literature Review should include a clear rationale of the choice of topic, with links to your Case study, and the extent to which the topic informs a Humanistic and Integrative approach to Counselling & Psychotherapy. Reference should be made to why this topic is of particular significance from both a personal and clinical perspective. The Review should demonstrate a broad search of the literature with reference to the sources of this search. The Review should provide a clear historical insight into the chosen topic as well as evidence of recent developments in the area, and reference to any relevant research and possible future directions.
