Introduction with at least 5 sentences (hook and thesis)
Three body paragraphs
° 1st body paragraph: Analyze character(s) –most students will analyze
ONE character the plot centers around — (MUST have at least 2 pieces of
textual evidence)
Answer the following questions:
• Who is the main character (age, physical description,
personal information)?
• Is the character flat (little character traits described) or
round (fully-developed)?
• Is the character dynamic (do they undergo an internal
change) or static (no change occurs during the course of
the novel)?

2nd body paragraph; Analyze the setting (time, place, helps initiate
the main backdrop and mood for a story)–(MUST have at least 2 pieces of
textual evidence)
Answer the following questions:
• What is the setting of the novel? Be specific.
Does the setting affect the overall plot? Explain.
Does the setting affect the overall theme? Explain.

3rd body paragraph: Analyze plot and theme–(must have at least 2 pieces
of textual evidence)
Answer the following questions:
• What is the plot of the story (exposition, rising action,
climax, falling action, resolution)?
What is the theme (main idea or underlying meaning of
the work)?
What is the motif (a repeating image, idea or a symbol
that develops or explains the theme)?– for example, in Of
Conclusion with at least 5 sentences (restatement of thesis statement)
