Lyon Elementary is a Title I school located in the rural Mississippi Delta. Because of it’s location, it is hard to get high speed internet in all the communities. Becasue of the poverty level, all our families can not afford technology.
Issue to discuss: Instructional Technology
Significance: With the ongoing pandemic, there are so many uncertainites about effective in person teaching on a regular basis. Therefore, we must be capapble of providing remote instruction. Students need access to dependable technology and fast speed internet services. Teachers need instructional resources , curriculum and programs to provide sound, effective, engaging and relevant instruction to ensure academic growth for everyone involved.
Involved: teachers, students, technology department, support staff and parents
How did this issue come to exist: The pandemic brought on the need for every student to have technolloyg and internet in their home so that they could receive instruction during the pandemic
Factors that perpetrate the issue: location, affordability, lack of high speed internet options
Addressed: The school has successfully provided every household with a device (laptop or tablet) they can use for academic purposes. The school is currently working to provide students with hot spots
Problems that are continuously arising are technology related, and the inability to successfully trouble shoot remotely because families are not capable of assisting younger students with technology problems.
