You will be creating a ~3-5 page annotated bibliography on a topic
of your choosing that is within the scope of World History from 1700 to the present (United
States history is EXCLUDED). You will also be giving a ~5-10 minute presentation to
accompany each of your bibliographies. For the presentation component, you will speak in front
of the class, explaining your thesis, how the works you chose supported that thesis, what you
found most interesting/surprising and/or what questions you have after completing your research.
PowerPoint/Google Slides etc. are NOT required, but feel free to use such programs if you
prefer.

Steps:
1. First, select a topic from world history to research, and write a thesis statement with which you
can use secondary sources (books from a university press or academic journal articles) to
substantiate your claims.

2. Then, write a bibliography with your sources cited, and a paragraph or two (minimum 5
sentences) for each that shows how the work proves your thesis statement. Use a minimum of 5-
6 different sources.

3. Use the following as a guide to cite your sources in Chicago style format. If you click “books”
and “articles” on the side, it will give you examples of how to cite properly – follow the model
for bibliographies.

4. Prepare a presentation that explains your thesis, discusses the works you chose and how they
support your thesis, along with any other points noted in the guidelines at the top of the page.
