“Ocean Pollution”: In the piece of fiction “Sea Story” by A.S. Byatt, what starts off as a typical coming-of-age love story turns into a message about human’s impact on the environment. Using this story as a starting point, investigate the impact human beings have had on the ocean in particular, from impacts on animals to the water itself. Argument/main prompt: In the story, Byatt suggests that a single small act of a human being can have wide-ranging impacts on the ocean. Do you agree with her, and if so, what kinds of small acts do we do that have a negative impact on the ocean? In order to mitigate these negative impacts, what small-scale or large scale things can humans do? Is it enough for the common person to act, or is it also necessary for corporations and governments to get involved and make changes to reverse the damage that has been done to the oceans? In this essay, do a deep dive on just one type of ocean pollution, or focus your attention on three or four different types, such as plastics, sunscreen, oil, industrial waste, chemicals, etc.
