Visit a facility that addresses issues related to the film and interview a professional who works directly on the issue in that setting. This can be a domestic violence agency, law enforcement agency, victim witness program, school, etc.
The reaction paper is intended to provide an opportunity for students to learn more about the specific type of violence and reflect upon the impact of some of the learning experiences provided in the course. The paper should include the following:
Introduction with brief discussion about the type of violence to be addressed in the paper.
Write a short literature review about the type of violence that you have chosen to focus on. The review should reference at least 4 peer-reviewed articles.
Based on the film and facility visit:
Write a brief overview of the film you watched (1 paragraph).
Write a brief overview about the individual you interviewed (1-2 paragraphs).
Body of the paper should include the following:
Discuss the psychological, social, economic, and political factors relating to the violence. Its impact on victims, perpetrators, and society.
How was the issue addressed in the film and in real life? Review the efficacy of the intervention and how it reflects societal view of the victim or perpetrator.
What are some practice implications that social work professionals and others working with the issue need to consider?
Reflection should include:
Discuss your beliefs about the subject prior to the experience.
Discuss how you felt during the educational experience.
Discuss how your beliefs about the subject have changed (or stayed the same).
Describe how you believe this experience may impact your future work with clients.
g. Summary or Conclusion (1-2 paragraphs)
The paper should be a minimum of 5 pages long. Use 12 pt. font (times new roman), with one inch margins and include a title page, cites and references (APA format). Students are encouraged to incorporate what they are learning in class and in their readings. Papers will be deducted one half letter grade for each day late and will not be accepted after 7 days from the assignment due date.
