Task
Compose a 1000-word essay that reflects on your AB research process, what you learned, and the relevance of the knowledge gained.
Essay 3 contains three basic sections, but it should be written as one, smoothly-flowing essay.
It does not need specific introductory or concluding paragraphs as Parts I and III fulfill these functions.
The essay must include at least one quotation from each AB source.
The essay must include a Works Cited page.
Part 1: What I Knew, Assumed, or Imagined
Before you began researching your topic, what did you already know about it?
Why did you select this topic? What interested you?
What did you assume you would find in your research?
What did you imagine to be true about your topic?
Part 2: The Search
After completing the research process (AB), write about your search in a narrative form (chronologically with specific details) to record and analyze the steps of the discovery process. In this section, you are telling the story of your research process.
Questions to consider:
What databases did you use? What websites did you consult?
What articles and research did you find?
What was most helpful and/or interesting?
Which sources were not as helpful and why?
How difficult and/or easy was it to search for and find research?
Do not feel obligated to tell everything. Highlight the happenings and facts you uncovered that were crucial to your hunt and contributed to your understanding of the topic.
When quoting directly from sources, you must document sources of information using citations and signal phrases.
Part 3: What I Discovered
Compare what you thought you knew, assumed, or imagined with what you actually discovered.
Provide some personal commentary and/or draw some conclusions.
Be specific, provide examples, and explain your points thoroughly.
Questions to consider:
What did you learn about your topic that you didn’t know before?
Was there anything you thought you knew or assumptions that you had about your topic that turned out not to be completely accurate?
What is some of the most interesting and/or useful information that you found?
Did you find anything that surprised you?
What has changed about your knowledge of the topic after conducting this research?
Discuss the relevance and significance of your topic.
