You will complete a Campus Audit grid in which you will list areas in which integrity is “displayed” on campus, how this is communicated, how it affects or may affect the community, and what ethical standards are related to the acts/notions of integrity. You also will identify areas in which integrity is not practiced or displayed (i.e., the ethical standards are not upheld) and discuss how this is communicated, how it affects or may affect the community, and what ethical standards are being.
An awareness of how different aspects of the campus environment exemplify integrity is important to take note of while you are a student here at Maryland. In order to understand better how integrity is exemplified on campus, you will be conducting a campus audit.
For this activity, you are to examine various aspects of the campus environment, including physical spaces and groups of people. The key physical and group spaces that you will evaluate are the residential environment, student organizations, classrooms, University-sponsored events, peer networks, and academic spaces. In order to carry out your campus audit, you will identify a specific group or place to assess from the specific environments listed. More specific groups and places are listed under each environment. However, you are encouraged to choose specific groups and places that you may identify with more closely. For example, within the residential environment, you may choose your residence hall, fraternity/sorority house, or off-campus apartment.
Once you have identified the specific groups and places within each environment you would like to assess, you will evaluate them using the rating sheet that has been provided. You are to assess each environment on the degree to which it supports integrity, character, and ethics. Using the rubric and checklist, identify the degree of support that you feel each environment exhibits. Once you have identified the degree of support, briefly state your rationale for why the environment falls into the category that you identified. If the environment appears to be lacking in some way, also describe how you think the environment could be enhanced. Lastly, you will also need to reflect upon the effect the rating has on the University community.
