A‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌ustralian Writer please Your individual assessment combines academic and practical assessment components and consists of following parts: • Part 1: Leadership approach – response to a leadership scenario. • Part 2: Literature review – research into literature on your chosen aspect of team communication or leadership. • Part 3: Reflection – integrating your learning, research, and practical application. Part 1: Leadership approach In this part of the final assessment, you are expected to outline and describe the steps that you would take when addressing a specific leadership situation scenario. The following scenarios are prepared for this purpose: Scenario 1: You have been hired to manage a big IT project. The project has been running for a few months, with the detailed planning completed only recently. The previous project manager briefed you on a few issues that you need to address with priority: • There are 20 existing and new 30 people assigned to the project and only 2 team leaders have been appointed. Those team leaders do not get along. • There is no formal reporting structure, each person is expected to be self-managed and contribute to the best of their abilities. • Some resources have not started with their tasks as they have dependencies on other resources and their tasks, so they seem underutilised. • Your stakeholders have been hearing from various individuals from your project that things are not organised and that the project is slipping. As you are new to the organisation, you have only managed to meet with the key stakeholders and they told you that the project is running well and that you got all the resources that you need, you just need to make them work productively as one team. How do you approach your new leadership role, build an effective team, while setting realistic expectations with your stakeholders? Scenario 2: You have been working for the same company for a few years and recently you have pitched a great idea for a project that has been approved. You have been appointed to manage this initiative and now are starting your planning process. You have identified necessary resources and they have all been assigned to your project. Among those resources there are people you know – some have been your peers until recently and some used to manage you at the start of your career. Some of those people can be a bit challenging when receiving direction. There are also some of new resources you have never met. They are all experts in their respective fields, and you know you will heavily rely on them to deliver this project. You know you need to assert your authority, but you also need to build a highly motivated team. Your first meeting is next week, and you need to develop a strategy on how to establish yourself as an effective leader. What are some challenges you are facing and how will you tackle them? Scenario 3: You have been working in a large team involved in various projects. The team consists of highly skilled members who have strong ambitions, as well as opinions and ideas when it comes to each project. Recently, your manager has been promoted to a higher role and you have been chosen to lead this team. There is also a big project coming for your team that will be critical to your success in this new role. A few other team members have also applied for this role and you know they are not happy with the outcome. You must integrate this team to successfully perform on this new project. What is your strategy in achieving this? Task: Choose one of the outlined scenarios and develop a strategy for addressing the leadership aspects of that scenario. You are expected to: • Analyse the situation and describe your approach, explaining your reasoning, leadership style and personalities involved. • Outline the key challenges associa‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌ted with your approach. • Outline each step that you will take as part of your chosen approach. • For each step, describe your planned actions, justify, and evaluate their effectiveness in terms of leadership approach and the impact on the teams/people involved. This part of the assessment focuses on practical application of your skills and abilities, so you should imagine yourself in a workplace situation where you are responding to challenges described in your chosen scenario. No references are expected in this part of the assessment, your focus should be on professional application of your competencies and the description and evaluation of your recommended actions. Length: 500-700 words Part 2: Literature review In this part of your final assessment, we are focusing on your ability to conduct research, explore solutions and report on your findings, using academic language. First, you need to identify an aspect of team communication or leadership that you wish to explore further in the literature. You can choose any topic that is relevant to communication or leadership in project environments. For example, you could choose a topic that is related to your work in Part 1, so that you can use it to better understand some aspect of the situation and/or your proposed approach. Here are some initial suggestions of the types of topics you could explore: • Impact of leadership styles on team effectiveness • The link between personalities and different leadership styles • Importance of effective communication in leadership • Strategies for effective stakeholder engagement • Negotiation skills as an important element of your leadership skillset Then, you will be expected to select and review 4-6 articles related to your topic and provide a succinct, effective summary of your key observations and learnings from those articles. Your articles should be sourced either from academic journals or chapters from published books. Please avoid using general online search and websites that are not fully referenced or peer reviewed. This review is being written for an academic audience and you are expected to apply proper in-text referencing. Consider this when editing the work for tone, word choice, structure, and presentation. With this work, you are expected to demonstrate your ability to present effective information in concise form, so your word limit is set to 1000 words. All Information and ideas drawn from a source must be acknowledged with in-text citations. In most cases the information and idea will be paraphrased (written in your own words) as this shows a deeper understanding of the material than directly quoting/copying material. Paraphrasing also makes it easier to synthesise information. Directly quoting or copying of material should be only used sparingly if at all. If you choose to copy a section of text, you must always put the copied material in inverted commas (quote marks). Remember, any copied material (“quotes” or figures/images) must be explicitly referenced with the page number included. If you choose to include any graphics or tables, make sure that they add to the argument. You must always incorporate graphics and tables appropriately by including Figure or Table numbers with captions (and a citation to the source or sources), and by referring to the Figure(s) or Table(s) in the text. Length: 800-1000 words Part 3: Reflection In the final part of this assessment, we ask you to evaluate your progress in this subject and your work on the final assessment. Specifically, we ask you to reflect on the following and briefly explain your answers: • Did the findings from the literature review in Part 2 influence/adjust your response to Part 1? • Has your approach to leadership changed after attending this course? • What are the most valuable parts of learning expe‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌rience for you in this course? Length: 500 words
