1.) Introduction Paragraph Clearly state (i.e., “I argue…) and advance an argument in the introduction paragraph. You should state your overall evaluation of your representative and a brief logic to support your position. This basis of this essay should not be your opinion alone. Instead, you need to make an argument about the representative′s performance that is based on a convincing interpretation of evidence. The point is not just to state what you think, but to try to make a strong case built on evidence and reason that could convince someone that your argument is valid. State what model of representation your representative follows (i.e., delegate, trustee, and politico) and your supporting logic in your argument. Provide a roadmap of your paper, meaning you should indicate the topics your paper will cover, including: Ethics Stewardship Civic Engagement Overall Job Performance Conclusion You are NOT required to discuss all of these topics for Part 1 of your draft. Some of them will be completed for Part 2 of your draft. Transition to next paragraph 2.) Ethics Define term State your evaluation of your representative′s ethics Is there any evidence that your representative is ethical or unethical? Transition to next section 3.) Stewardship Define Term State your evaluation of your representative′s ethics How has your representative done in terms of stewarding the nation’s resources, including fiscal and environmental? 4.) Civic Engagement Define Term State your evaluation of your representative’s civic engagement How engaged has your representative been in working with and being responsive to constituents? Transition to next section 5.) Evaluate your representative′s overall job performance Include a discussion of the different models of representation (i.e., delegate, trustee, politico). State which model your representative follows and your supporting logic. Transition to next section 6.) Conclusion paragraph Restate your argument and your supporting logic.
