Assignment: Leading in Transnational Spaces HSPPs work with issues and populations in local, national, and international contexts. You may find yourself working for—or working with—human leadership organizations and culture. Because of different national contexts, how they deliver services is influenced by different regulation. For example, in the Netherlands, drug use is viewed more as a public health issue instead of a criminal justice issue. Drug users do not face the same type of harsh legal punishments they face in other countries. This changes how addiction services are provided, how addiction is treated by HSPPs, and the effectiveness of reducing the spread of HIV through intravenous needle use. For this Assignment, you will look at how human services organizations in different national spaces operate based on the regulatory environment and the implications for leadership. To Prepare: Research a human services organization that operates in a different national space than the country where you live. Some issues you may want to review are privacy laws, homelessness, addiction services, elder care, LGBTQIA+ rights, and reentry after incarceration. You can also review operational issues such as funding or human resources regulations. Consider the implications for leadership and management. In a 2-page paper, provide a comparison of at least two regulations that affect human services organizations in the country where you live with that of a different country. Include how differences in regulations impact how to lead the organization and manage employees for that organization.
