Discuss on Nursing Curriculum Design
Assessment of student knowledge can be accomplished in a variety of methods, one of which is
the examination. Whether through a unit test or the final exam, learned knowledge can be
assessed or applied in the test format. Nurse Educators must be aware of the benefits of the
various testing methods as well as associated disadvantages.
Most tests are created using Multiple Choice (MC), True & False (TF), Matching, and even
essay. Tests questions may include a single answer or have a Select All That Apply (SATA)
formatting. Tests may also include case studies spanning over several questions. However, you
develop your tests, you must consider NCLEX preparedness as well as the best method for
assessing the course objectives
INSTRUCTIONS
For this assignment, you will compose a 3–page paper on assessing through multiple testing
formats, specifically multiple choice (MC), true and false (T&F), and matching. You will also
create a quiz/test of 25 questions total (15 MC, 5 T&F, 5 Matching). These questions should be
created by you and not retrieved from an online source, textbook, or current test to which you
have access.
1. The course content is undergraduate pre-licensure (BSN). Describe the course
(level of students, content, objectives).
2. Answer these questions for each question type:
Advantages of this question type
Disadvantages of this question type
What type of content should be assessed in this manner (knowledge vs. application)
Do you or will you use this format in testing? Explain why or why not.
3. For each format also consider:
a. For MC:
i. Consider 6 qualities of effective MC questions
b. For T&F:
i. Should this format be used in nursing exams? Explain.
ii. What type of content could be properly assessed in this format?
c. For Matching:
i. Should this format be used in nursing exams? Explain
ii. What type of content could be properly assessed in this format?
4. Create a 25-question quiz/test based on the above content
a. MC – 15 questions
i. One must be case study based
ii. Two must be SATA format
iii. One must require students to prioritize best answers
b. T&F – 5 questions
c. Matching – 5 questions
