Semiotics defined is an investigation into how meaning is created and how meaning is communicated. Its origins lie in the academic study of how signs (desсrіptive) and symbols (visual and linguistic) create meaning. Space is recognized, interpreted, played upon, and transformed by its inhabitants and visitors, thus producing a deep narrative or language. For instance, parks and shops are transformed by visitors and inhabitants based on how it is utilized based on one′s interpretation. When analyzed deeper, signs within urban spaces can generate different symbols (visual, linguistic, or emotion). From a semiotic point of view, cities are constantly shaped by various forms of media language and text (i.e. billboards) that contribute to defining and redefining urban spaces′ identity (Pezzini and Peverini, 2014). Urban semiotic researchers assert that the city emits a marked language ( i.e. signs) and unmarked (i.e. spaces or feelings). Combined, urban semiotics focuses on the consciousness of the symbols, and there functions in a metropolitan area rather than the structure themselves.
