You will do this exam on your own. YOU WILL NOT CHEAT OR COLLABORATE ON THIS EXAM IN ANY WAY, INCLUDING WORKING WITH YOUR CLASSMATES OR CUTTING AND PASTING INFORMATION.
You will provide thorough definitions for the 15 terms. Imagine that you are preparing a detailed study guide for a multiple-choice test and that these are the terms for the test. You will use the book chapters and sources and online material to come up with your definitions. There will be absolutely no copying and pasting or copying sources word for word, or only making slight modifications. These definitions will be completely in your own words. The second portion will be a 1 ½ to 2-page double-spaced essay; I’ll give you three questions to choose from for your essay. These need to be very detailed and you are required to use three examples directly from the reading to support your answer, one of those examples has to come from a reading under the “Primary Source” heading.
Grading:
The terms will be worth 3 points each for a total of 45, and the essay will be worth 25 points, for a total of 70 points, so please do well on the exam, it is a big part of the grade.
Part I:
The first portion of the exam will be giving me thorough definitions for the 15 terms listed. I want the definitions to cover things mentioned in the sources when applicable:

I want you to be detailed and approach this as though you were preparing a study guide to take an extensive multiple choice exam, your grade will reflect your effort and attention to detail.
Part II:
This is the essay portion of the exam. It will be worth 25 points. I want you to write a 1 ½ to 2-page essay, ABSOLUTELY NO LESS THAN 1 ½ PAGES AND NO MORE THAN 2 PAGES. You will choose one of the following questions and use it as a basis for making points about the era we have been studying.
Questions:
This will be similar to your writing assignments, but it will be very detailed.
You need AT LEAST 3 SPECIFIC EXAMPLES FROM OUR COURSE READINGS (1 OF WHICH MUST COME FROM UNDER THE “PRIMARY SOURCES) DO NOT USE OUTSIDE WEBSITES. You can use anything we have read up to and including Unit #6.
Essay Portion Option #1:
I would like you to explain the radicalism of the Great Depression, you need to:
1. Explain the political changes that took place in the various pieces of legislation passed (establishment of the WPA, CCC, FDIC, etc.) and their effectiveness and impact
2. Explain the response to the Depression from working people (strikes, cooperative movements, unionization, etc) and their effectiveness and impact.
*Do not summarize the Great Depression or explain what lead to it, only write about the the politics of the New Deal and the responses.
Essay Portion Option #2:
Explain the development of the Military Industrial Complex, you need to:
1. Explain what it is and why and how it came about.
2. Explain its relationship to the Cold War (spending, revolving door, smaller conflicts).
3. Explain how it shaped the post-WWII era bringing it to the present.
*Note that this one is asking you for what led to it AND how it connects to the present
Essay Portion Option #3:
I would like you to explain the suppression of progressive activists from the First Red Scare to McCarthyism, you need to:
1. Explain how the First and Second Red Scare and McCarthyism were used to suppress labor unions, political radicals, and Communists in America.
2. Explain how the fears were used to supress people of color advocating for their civil rights.
