Develop a research proposal by following the six steps in the research process discussed by Creswell (2012), 4th edition. You can do well on this assignment if read the chapters thoroughly because it clearly explains all the steps. Not having a textbook is not an excuse for not doing this assignment. The result will be a ZERO. At lease 5 peer-reviewed references (cited in the body of the paper and listed at end of the paper) are required to support your research.
1. Identify a research problem – state the topic, then narrow it to a researchable problem or issue (Figure 2.1, and definitions of topic and research problem, Creswell, 4th edition, page 60).
– Justify your research problem – provide several (at least three) reasons why it is important to study this particular issue or concern. Use different sources to justify the importance pf studying the issues or problem (Figure 2.3, page 67-78); and justify the audience or audiences.
2. Review the literature – review a minimum of five research articles/sources to support your research problem; refer to the sample proposals and the articles in your text.
3. Develop (a). Purpose Statement (see chapter 6 and ppt. slides), and
(b) Research questions – start with one broad question that you are seeking to answer. Then develop 4-6 sub-questions you will ask participants relating to the broad question.
4. Collect Qualitative Data – Chose the qualitative research design you want to use. Briefly discuss why you chose this design for your study (advantages and disadvantages). Develop a brief interview guide/instrument and tell us how you will use it to collect the data.
– Ethical issues: discuss issues of privacy, confidentiality, volunteer participation, gatekeepers, and gaining access to participants.
5. Analyze and Interpret the Qualitative Data. How will you do this? Discuss how (method) data will be analyzed.
6. Report and Evaluate your Findings – How will you do this?
Remember, this is a research proposal – meaning it is how you will carry out the steps in the qualitative research process (not actually going out on the field to collect the data). Again, read the textbook, the power point slides, and videos available in the Files in Canvas for directions and guidance. Samples of qualitative research are discussed in the textbook.
