Before beginning this assignment:
Review the handout titled “Fiction Essay Requirements” Download “Fiction Essay Requirements”in the Fiction Unit Folder (click on ‘Files’ on the left) so that you understand what the final product (the Fiction Essay) will look like.
Read the sample student essay on pages 109-110 in the textbook.
Then, begin building your outline by choosing one of the stories we have read. Choose one of its themes.
Locate and review the handout titled ‘Fiction Outline Example with Commentary’ Download Fiction Outline Example with Commentary’located in class Files/Fiction Unit.
Follow the format used for “A&P” to create your own thesis outline.
Make sure:
Your thesis names three elements and one theme. Example: Shirley Jackson uses character, setting, and irony to show the theme of hypocrisy in “The Lottery”.
Your Roman numerals name an element and the theme. Example: I. Jackson uses character to show the theme of hypocrisy.
After you submit your outline, I will post feedback.
