Introduction : It should be a minimum of one FULL page.
-Introduce the topic by reporting general theory. This explains where your hypothesis is coming from.
This entails what’s already known about the topic.
-Background: Is context provided for the study? State history and research done on the topic (make sure you cite
your source). If you add pictures, make sure you cite the source. what’s your aim and objective?
-Hypothesis: Is the hypothesis stated clearly, and is it well-justified?
-This is an idea which is suggested as a possible explanation for a particular situation or condition,
but which has not yet been proved to be correct.
Materials and methods:
-Clearly state the materials you used and procedure used to carry out the experiment.
Results:
-Graphs, charts, tables: Are all relevant figures included? Are figures and axes labeled appropriately?
Do they only contain appropriate information?
-Description in text: Does the text adequately describe the results of the study?
-Statistics: Are the appropriate statistics included for this study? (e.g., mean, standard deviation, test statistic, p-value)
Discussion:
-Here you provide details of what you observed during the experiment and possible explanation of your results.
– Outline your findings in plain and relate your results to your hypothesis, e.g. is it supported or rejected?
– Compare your results to background materials from the introduction section. Are your results similar or different? Discuss why/why not.
-Are the results related back to the hypothesis and predictions?Is the general biological significance of the
study discussed?
-Independent thought: Did the student contribute ideas besides those discussed in lab?
Conclusion:
-This is where you conclude if your study supports or rejects your hypothesis.
-Finish with a statement of your findings and the key points of the discussion (e.g. interpretation and implications).
-A well written paragraph stating the conclusion of the experiment.
