Write a short essay on a psychological theory of personality that you have been introduced to in this
course (you can choose between psychoanalysis, behaviourism, and humanistic psychology). Provide a
brief description of the theory. Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of this approach. Discuss at least
one of these strengths and one of these weaknesses in a South African context.

1. Write a paragraph to introduce the topic and provide an overview of the structure of the
discussion to follow. Your introduction should begin by providing an overarching aim for your
paper.
6. Attach a separate page listing all the references you have used in the course of completing your
assignment. All references must be in APA 7th format and the title of the page must be
“References”, NOT bibliography.

Do not use any direct quotations. Instead, paraphrase your sources and reference appropriately (APA 7th
referencing style). Make sure that appropriately
reference everything your write (all definitions, claims, factual statements). Your essay is not the place to
rely on general knowledge or popular/personal opinions, nor in personal anecdotes. The aim is to learn
how to develop an argument on reliable, empirical and certifiable sources.
Avoid indirect referencing. Go to the original source. Copying references is also a form of plagiarism.
When you find one article and use the same papers used on the article for a specific argument, you are
stealing the authors’ argument, their literature search and their reference list, and their understanding
of the readings they did. This constitutes plagiarism. Do not reference a source that you have not read.
You need to use at least five references. You may use your textbook as a reference, as well as any of the
readings that have been provided.
