Week 4 Discussion: Learning Objectives
Learning objectives are written, specific statements of observable learner behavior or action that can be measured upon completing an educational activity (Chatterjee & Corral, 2017). It defines the expected goals and organizes specific topics of educational activity. Learning objective describes what the learner/client should understand or be competent to do at the end of the training. It also helps to clarify, organize, and prioritize learning. Learning objectives are brief, clear, and specific statements of what the learners will do at the end of teaching and learning is achieved (Billings & Halstead, 2020).
According to Revello and Fields (2015), using the SMART strategy— Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-bound in conjunction with Learning objectives will provide more insight and learner-specific goals. Using the SMART is a good combination because it brings about structure and ensures the learning objectives are reasonable and achievable within a set time.
