The (Resistance, Reconciliation, and Resentment: Analyzing Attitudes and Relations with Indigenous Peoples in Canada) reflection is based on two readings:

Logan, Tricia E. 2014. “Memory, Erasure, and National Myth.” In Colonial Genocide in Indigenous North America, edited by Andrew Woolford, Jeff Benvenuto, and Alexander Laban Hinton. Duke University Press.

Harell, Allison, Stuart Soroka, and Kierra Ladner. 2014. “Public Opinion, Prejudice, and the Racialization of Welfare in Canada.” Ethnic and Racial Studies 37(14): 2580–2597.

Reflection must feel integrate the readings with one another and try to explore some of the ways that they complement or contradict one another.

For this assignment, you are required to submit a reading reflection on the two given readings. The reflection must demonstrate your understanding of the articles/chapters and your opinions on their contribution to the literature on the politics of resentment.(Politics of resentment explores the politics of resentment in Canada, focusing on the ways that intergroup relations affect public opinion, political behaviour, and current policy debates. Over the semester, we will learn about the ways that feelings of anger and anxiety underwrite many of the political conflicts that shape Canadian politics, and we will assess how our political system responds and/or contributes to such conflicts. The course begins by providing an introduction to relevant theories of political psychology in intergroup relations, assessing how these concepts apply to Canadian political culture. Then it turns to understanding the major “fault lines” upon which the politics of resentment frequently plays out in Canada, focusing on debates linked to regionalism, race and immigration, Indigenous relations, and sex and gender equality. It also examines the various dimensions of Canada’s political system that can facilitate or constrain political hostility and intergroup resentment in the Canadian context. Wel focused on the ways that our federation, electoral system, party system, courts, and news media can contribute to or mitigate against the development of divisive policies or leaders. Esentially, Politics of resentment anaylzes a wide array of policy issues that capture deeply-rooted conflicting perspectives and political hostilities in Canada, including (but not limited to) social policy and redistribution, environmental policy, COVID recovery policies, and more.)

The responses should be one page in length. The responses should be written in a 12-point font with one-inch margins.
For each response, you are encouraged to write about your thoughts, opinions, or impressions on the article/chapter, and to reflect on how the content of the reading/podcast connects with course themes, concepts, or material. You are also required to include two discussion questions at the end of each response.
