Leadership/Management-Quality Improvement Project: Students in NU 450 will examine a current quality improvement topic (Marquis & Huston, 2020, Chapter 23) in their area of interest. The overall goal is for the student to demonstrate integration of evidence-based practice with future collaboration and leadership in identifying and planning a conceptual project that meets the Institute of Medicine (IOM) (see index for references in text) recommendations for quality improvement. Students will identify an appropriate area of interest and focus. The student will synthesize literature on the topic.
This is an APA written assignment. The content should be 8-10 pages, not including the title page and reference page. The student should note at least 8 or more references, including five evidence- based practice journal articles written within the past 5 years supporting the project.
This Leadership/Management Quality Improvement Project correlates with the Institute of Medicine framework to focus on safe, quality patient-focused care with the competencies for educating health care providers. The healthcare providers are interdisciplinary teams that provide patient-centered care that is based on evidence-based practice, information technology, and quality improvement.
The topic of this paper is medication administration errors.
The following are guidelines for your paper:
1. Page 1 must have page numbers, a title (bolded) as per APA format and the students name, course number, year, and semester
2. Page 2 must have a title (bolded) and centered and a page number as per APA 7th edition format.
3. The first paragraph on page 2 should be a clear introduction as to the Problem you have selected to write your Quality Improvement paper about, what you will be including in the paper, a reference to the textbook where Quality Improvement is discussed, and a purpose statement discussing why you are writing about this topic and what is the “take home” message about this issue you will discuss. Use a textbook reference and one EBP reference.
4. The 2nd paragraph of page 2 should include information about the The Problem. At least 2 EBP references are needed to support why this is a problem.
5. Page 3 and subsequent pages through page 5 should begin the Institute of Medicine Aims including specific paragraphs on each of the following areas and how your identified Problem fits into these categories: Safety, Effectiveness, Efficiency. Equity, Timing, and Patient Centered Care. The student should explain why the IOM developed these aims, what other organizations were involved including the Joint Commission and their role in keeping patients safe when the Problem you are focused on is concerned. At least 2 EBP references are needed and one reference to the IOM aims.
6. Page 6 should have two paragraphs that discuss 1) Interdisciplinary teams and how this affects patient care related to the Problem that you identified. 2) Information or Technology and how this fits into helping to find a solution or improve the Problem that you identified. At least 2 references are needed
7. Page 7 should have two paragraphs that discuss 1) The term Quality Improvement and why it is so important. Who originated this concept? Who does this help? 2) Evidence based Research related to the Solutions that have been found to be effective when working on the Problem.
8. Page 8 should be your conclusion. Remember, a conclusion is a recap of the paper. No new material should be included here. No references are needed in this paragraph
