COUNTRY PROJECT
This project is designed to help you gain a more informed perspective of current economic issues facing the least developed economies at various stages of development.
You will work individually or with a partner to carry out research and submit findings either as a research paper (between 7-10 pages including bibliography)
Introduction
Research the criteria used to describe global economies in different stages of development – advanced economies, developing economies, and least developed. Make sure to refer to reliable organizations e.g. UN, IMF, CIA, OECD, WTO, The Heritage Foundation.
Provide ONE example of a country under each category as defined above (advanced economies, developing economies, and least developed). Provide the website link and the list of countries you found.
Select the LEAST DEVELOPED country from the three countries you picked above and carry out a thorough research of its economy. Minimum areas to discuss includes:
GDP
GDP per capita
Major industries
Employment by sector – Unemployment – Labor force
Education – Literacy rates
Life expectancy
Geography – Natural resources – Climate
Technology
Inflation
Average income – Sources of income – Percentage below the poverty line
Governmental structure
National debt
Money system – Exchange rates
Trade – Foreign direct investment
Infrastructure
War – Genocide – Disease
Outlook for the future.
Compare/contrast your findings to the US. Economy
Submit your research by the due date in the form of a Research paper, with a Bibliography, and MLA Style formatting
