A written assignment asking you to weigh in on an historical debate related to the Second World War. You will be supplied with a set of secondary and primary readings (below) and asked to write a formal, analytical essay that summarizes the main arguments of your chosen debate, assesses the evidence provided, and reaches your own conclusion about the nature and/or significance of the controversy. Your essay must have:
Write an introduction, which outlines the topic and contains a thesis statement.
•A thesis, which identifies the nature of the controversy and gives your assessment of the debate and/or its meaning.
•Multiple body-paragraphs, summarizing and analyzing the readings, and providing evidence for your assessment of the controversy.
•A conclusion, which summarizes your analysis and may offer your judgment.
•Footnotes or Endnotes, providing proper citations to the readings.
You may use the Lightbody course text in addition to the required sources listed below.
You may write on a controversy of your own choosing as long as your paper draws on at least 2 good academic articles or chapters and at least 3 related primary sources AND you receive approval from Prof Mersereau before March 4.
