Course Introduction – Arts History: This course examines Indigenous and colonial histories, politics, power relations, and other forces that
have shaped mainstream understandings of what constitutes Northwest Coast First Nations art today.
Students will learn to critically engage with a wide array of Indigenous visual and performance art practices
in this area as well as pressing issues concerning Indigenous resurgence, land rights, language
revitalization, sovereignty, museums, and repatriation
