WRITE AN EXPERIMENTAL REPORT.

You were randomly assigned to receive 1 of 4 conditions concerning a job applicant you were going to be rating (see handout for reminder). The conditions included manipulating and changing the names and teaching evaluations of the applicants. We have gender (male or “Brendan” and female or “Brenda”) and teaching evaluations (high vs low evaluations). So, essentially, the research question concerns how gender influences judgments and ratings for a job/position and how this might interact based on the teaching evaluations of the male or female candidate. So, the experiment is a 2(gender: male v. female) X 2(evaluations :high v. low) between-subjects design. In the dataset, the independent variable or factor for gender is labeled as “ApplicantGender”, the other independent variable or factor for teaching evaluations is labeled as “ApplicantEvaluations” andthe dependent variable is labeled as “ApplicantRating”. You will be testing the difference between these 4 means by conducting a Multi Factorial ANOVA (see handout on Page 4 for factorial multi level ANOVA). Here are a few links that may also help with understanding Two-way ANOVA with an interaction effect.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zRZ3_dIaYYhttps://www.statisticssolutions.com/conduct-interpret-factorial-anova/You will have write the sections of an APA paper (see syllabus) with your Introduction focused on gender and evaluating candidates (you can broaden this literature out if need be). Include the Method section describing the participants, measures (look at handout labeled “Experiment Gender”) and procedure/design. Make sure to report the Results of the experiment being thorough by presenting the means, the multifactorial ANOVA and a graph of the means (this can look a variety of ways). Then you will have a discussion section bringing everything together from your literature review to the results of the findings in the data. Make sure the paper is in your own writing and fully authored individual paper. The dataset is attached with the demographics and variables of interest.A short write-up description of how to run the results in SPSS is below (I also attached a video):”Choose “Analyze” go to “General Linear Model”. In the box, put “Rating of Applicant” in Dependent Variable box, and “Gender of Applicant- ApplicantGender” “High or Low Teaching Evaluations- ApplicantEvaluations” in the Fixed Factors box. You want to go to Options tab and click on “Descriptive Statistics”, “homogeneity Tests” and “Effect Size” (optional). Then you can create a means plot but clicking on Plot tab and putting one factor in “Horizontal Axis” and the other factor in the “Separate Lines”- click “Add”, then “Continue”. Click on OK and the output should come out (*note: because this is a 2X2, you do not need to conduct post hoc analyses or pairwise comparisons— this would only be for more than 2 levels in a factor, e.g., 2X3).”You need to report the 1) means/descriptive statistics, 2) the F results of the between subjects effects for the main effect of gender, evaluations and the interaction between the two and 3) visualization of the results like a bar/line graph of the means/interaction and/or tables). For example “A multifactorial ANOVA was conducted to examine how ethnicity (White vs. Latino vs. Other) and gender of participants interacted on how they talk to their family about general health issues. The Levene’s test confirmed that the homogeneity of variance assumption was met (p > .05). There was no main effect of gender and no interaction but there was a main effect of ethnicity, F(2,185)=3.33, p<.05. Males reported better overall health (M = 3.72) than female participants (M = 3.34). The means for those who identified as White was 3.8, 3.7 for Latino and 3.6 for Other.
