When software runs awry, the readings for this week mention a few examples of costly programming mistakes. Find a significant programming error from the last five years and briefly summarize the case and what happened. Do not use a summary or “top 10 worst mistakes” type of article as your support. You may use those to find a case, but find an article with enough detail about the event. If the case is older, look for follow-up articles. Include the name of the case as your post’s subject and avoid one another student has already selected. In the case you selected, who was held responsible for the defective software? Who should they have held accountable: corporate management, production managers, software engineers, or even the end-user? Explain your reasoning. Are these errors an example of the price society pays for using complex technology so no blame should be assigned? Explain. What steps can the software industry take to ensure the integrity of its software?
