Write an essay (900–1,200 words) exploring one question about one of the Platonic dialogues we have read (Euthyphro, Meno, Apology, Phaedo). The question should get at the heart of the dialogue. Use the dialogue to help answer the question. Questions can be interpretive (“What is Socrates saying here?”), evaluative (“Is Socrates right?”), or thematic (“What is virtue?”). Requirements: Hard copy (in class) and upload to Canvas Free from spelling and grammatical errors Double spaced Word count: 900–1,200 words Close reading of the text—ask questions that go beyond the surface Insightful quotes and references Recommendations: Good style (clear, simple, precise, non-technical, flowing) Well organized (paragraphs are organized around a single claim and flow from one to the other) Second-order reflection on the text and question (not just what it says, but why it says it) Questions breed questions, but make sure they all have one source and one goal (an overarching question)
