The Columbian Exchange
The late-1400s was a crucial time in Europes shift from medieval to early modern. It was a hinging point after which many things changed because of European expansion around the globe. The effects are still with us today, and in fact for historians it is precisely because of this European expansion and influence around the world that we have this thing called Western Civilization.
Alfred W. Crosby is the historian who coined the phrase Columbian Exchange, to describe the results of European expansion after Christopher Columbus voyages. To get a sense of what Crosby means by this phrase, read the chapter I posted and then follow the instructions below for writing a response to it.
