Read the Khan Academy chapter on Ancient Egypt. Then read and watch the videos from the the article “Egypt is reclaiming its mummies and its past” from Popular Science (2019). Respond to the following questions.
PART 2: Analytical Discussion
What most impressed you about the artistic legacy of Ancient Egypt? How does that legacy influence modern day culture and architecture? Did you learn something surprising you didn’t know? What was it?
How did archaeologists draw from that knowledge to uncover ancient sites and interpret objects? How have interpretations of these sites changed over time? Why does it matter who the archaeologists are and where they come from? How do colonialism and archaeology intersect based on the Popular Science article? How are Egyptian scientists reclaiming their past from its colonized interpretations? Why is this important?
