INSTRUCTIONS:
Complete an essay in a Word document (no .pdfs) that addresses all of the questions listed below.
Don’t forget to put your name, date, and “Week 2 Assignment” at the top of your essay.
Your essay must include information from at least 2 academic sources, (one of which should be your textbook) and should also include your opinion.
You must also create a reference page that contains ALL of your sources in APA citation format and use in-text APA citations throughout the body of your answers to explain where you got your information.
Please use a font that is easy to read (like Verdana, Times New Roman, or Arial). Use standard margins and 1.5 spacing.
Your essay should be primarily written in your OWN WORDS (i.e., paraphrase the information in your own words: no over-excessive quoting!). However, if you want to include some important quotes in your essay- then, you must be sure that you are using quotation marks and citations where necessary.
Lastly, watch your writing! Be sure to use proper grammar/sentence structure and proofread carefully.

Answer the following questions (based on the facts in the handout).
Think about the various test (outlined in your textbook) that are used to determine “substantial step” for the crime of attempt. Now, apply the test used in this case by the court prior to 1989 and by the legislature after 1989 in Tennessee. Explain what test you think they represent and why (in detail).
Do you agree that the girls (under the Tennessee test) took a substantial step towards the commission of the targeted offense here? Why or why not?
Would your answer be different if Tennessee used the “last step” test or the “physical proximity” test? If so, how?
