In this task you will “meet” some of them and get to know an individual philanthropist whose philosophy resonates with you personally and/or professionally. Part 1: Research 1. Select an individual and a quote that resonates with you personally and/or professionally. 3. Find out more about the individual you selected. You may use any site, search engine, journals, and/or books to collect information. A few sites to considering searching are Wikipedia, Yahoo, Google and the National Louis Library. Part 2: Write an Essay After you select the individual and the quote, write a 3-page essay that gives a bit more background about the individual. Make sure your essay addresses the following questions: What is the individual’s personal and professional background? How has the individual’s life history and experiences shaped his or her beliefs about philanthropy? Does the individual currently have a non-profit organization, or does the individual give to various charities? What is the individual’s philanthropic focus (i.e., education, health and wellness, the arts, etc.)? Explain. Why is the quote you selected so meaningful to you? Explain. Make sure that you properly cite any and all references that you use following the guidelines of the APA manual (6th ed.).
