Below are the instructions of the school I am applying to: https://www.ischool.utexas.edu/programs/msis-admissions
Areas of Interest: Discuss the areas of interest that you wish to study in the MSIS program as well as identify any significant issues or problems within those areas that you would like to explore or address during your studies.
– After teaching through the pandemic and experimenting with a plethora of educational technologies and online resources to aid in distance learning, I became intrigued by the design choices behind these technologies and their impact on students’ learning.
I’ve encountered designs that can derail a day’s lesson or cause a student to spiral into self-doubt and lose motivation, and these realizations led me to discover UX design. I enrolled in a UX design Bootcamp called DesignLab: https://designlab.com/
I created a portfolio with 3 capstones
1. A clothing website called Mirror
2. A health app called Can I Eat?
3. A new feature from an existing app (Headspace)
Background & Experience: Describe how your academic background and work experiences have prepared you for graduate studies in the field of information and why you wish to study specifically at the UT Austin School.
– I graduated from the University of Houston in December 2020 and became an elementary teacher after graduating. I graduated with a 4.0
– I have taught 5th grade, 1st grade, 2nd grade, and Pre-k. I have used technology to aid with instruction.
